If you have prostate cancer and you are currently undergoing, or are planning to begin, hormone therapy, PCFA invites you to take part in a research study in partnership with the University of Southern Queensland and Prostate Cancer Survivorship Essentials.

The purpose of the study is to test the effectiveness of a new supportive care program provided by Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses.

What is involved?

If you enrol to take part and are selected as a participant, you will be randomly assigned to one of two study groups.

The first group will test the effectiveness of the new program, where you’ll get no-cost individual support sessions delivered by phone - including personalised strategies for dealing with the side-effects of hormone therapy, such as loss of bone and muscle strength, mood changes and fatigue.

The second group will continue with “usual care” provided by your health care team plus a package of education materials.

All participants will be followed up by the study team at three, six and twelve months after they join the study.

What’s next?

If you would like to participate or receive more information about the study, please contact the PCEssentials Hormone Therapy study team directly.

You can also read more about the study here.
